About the Memphis Urban League

The Memphis Urban League is an interracial, non-profit community service organization whose main purpose is to secure resources, devise strategies, plan and implement programs that will lead to the continuing reduction and removal of social and economic barriers.

These barriers inhibit Blacks and other ethnic groups from cultivating, reaching and expressing their full human potentials on a par with (ALL) other Memphians and Americans.

Its primary business is helping dependent people to become independently productive.
Mission
The mission of the Memphis Urban League is to assist African-Americans and other ethnic groups to expand economic opportunities, and secure parity, power and civil rights.

Our three-pronged strategy for pursuing the mission is:

  • Ensuring that our children are well educated and equipped to expand their economic opportunities in the 21st century
  • Helping adults attain economic self-sufficiency through good jobs, homeownership, entrepreneurship and wealth accumulation
  • Ensuring our civil rights by eradicating all barriers to equal participation in the economic and social mainstream of America
